Kalimat pasif adalah kalimat yang subjeknya menerima aksi. Ciri khas dari kalimat pasif ini adalah setelah subjek harus diikuti tobe dan kata kerja bentuk past participle (S+tobe+Verb3). Kalimat pasif dari kalimat: "She works two jobs that make ends meet; at least, that was her reason for not having time to join us." adalah " Two jobs are worked by her that make ends meet; at least, that was her reason for not having time to join us.

PASSIVE VOICE  

Kalimat aktif adalah kalimat yang subjeknya melakukan aksi, sementara kalimat pasif adalah kalimat dimana subjeknya tidak melakukan aksi tetapi menerima aksi. Ciri khas dari kalimat passive adalah TOBE+V3(Past Participle). Syarat-syarat perubahan kalimat aktive ke kalimat pasif adalah:  

1. Subjek pada kalimat aktif berubah menjadi objek pada kalimat pasif. Sebaliknya, objek pada kalimat aktif berubah menjadi subjek pada kalimat pasif.  
2. Selalu dibentuk dengan menggunakan pola TOBE+ VERB 3 (Past particile).  
3. Tobe yang digunakan sesuai dengan pola tenses dari kalimat aktif.
4. Terkadang menggunakan kata by jika yang melakukan aksi/perbuatan pada kalimat aktif perlu dan sangat penting untuk diketahui.
