It was last summer. I witnessed an act of violence, but I am not sure what to think of it till today.

A man, who probaly had been convicted of vandalism, tried to steal a handbag from a woman who was going home and carrying shopping. It was just outside the block of flats where I live, on the pavement, next to the street in the afternoon , at around 5.p.m. The man who took the woman's purse was in rags and looked as if he was homeless, hungry and poor. I was aware of the fact I should call for police, but I didn't do it. I wrestled with the feeling that he needed money and probably wanted to buy some food and the woman wouldn't help him if he needed it. I decided to watch what will happen next. The woman ran after him and took back her bag. He managed to snap some cash from it and ran away. I blamed myself for sometime after this event , thinking how I would feel if I was in that woman's shoes. Finally I stopped thinking about it and I guess I feel sorry for both : the man and the woman.
