Pierwszy "Doktor Who" show pojawił się na Brytyjskich ekranach w 1963. W tamtych czasach były dwa rodzaje budek telefonicznych - czerwone i specjalne niebieskie. Niebieskie służyły do telefonów alarmowych.
Ludzie używali ich żeby dzwonić na policję, używali ich też policjanci. Pisarze "Doktora Who" chcieli żeby pojazd Doktora był przedmiotem użytku codziennego - i wybrali oni niebieską budkę telefoniczną (w showie nazywa się "The Tardis").
