Universities are places where students from various backgrounds come together to gain advanced knowledge for their futures. Although it is primarily the students' responsibility to learn what professors teach them, universities can also do many things to help students to be successful.

 

One thing universities can do is to provide resources and support. Students attend lectures and learn theory from textbooks. However, universities can provide opportunities for students to put their theoretical knowldge into practice. They can provide laboratories with lab assistants who can answer questions if students have questions, for example.

 

Another helpful service universities can provide is to organize study groups. These are groups of students studying the same subject and solving problems together, discussing difficult concepts, and preparing for exams together. The university can help students find a meeting place and a meeting time for these sessions.

 

Lecturers can be available outside of class to answer student questions or to clarify points that were confusing in class. There is not always time or opportunity for students to ask questions in class. Also, some students are shy in front of others and will not ask any questions. Therefore, it is helpful if professors hold office hours, where students can ask questions freely.

 

Finally, not every student is the same or has the same learning style. Some learn best by reading, others by listening, others by doing. Therefore, universities need to encourage professors to teach using all these learning styles. There should be textbooks to read for visual learners. There should be lectures to listen to for aural learners. And there should be practical projects to creater for kinesthetic learners.

 

With the university's help  and with students' hard work, all students should be successful at university.
