Read the texts quickly. Answer the questions The New Zealand government has annoucned that visits to the dolphins in the Bay of Islands can only happen in certain areas and at certain times of day. In some areas there are rules to stop boats coming too close to the animals. Scientists have found that the dolphins are not getting enough rest because of the large numbers of tourist who come by boat to swim with them. Siince the 1980s, tour operators in Churchill, Canada, have used special vehicles to take people to see polar bears. Now, about ten thoustand visitors come every autumn to look at the bears. But scientists at the University of Manitoba believe there may be a problem. Instead of resting or sleeping to save energy, the polar bears go on alert' every time vehicles come near. This uses up some of their supply of fat that they need for hunting during the winter. It may have a long-term effect on the bear's health. In American national parks, many of the wild brown bears have lost their natural fear of humans. People bring food to the park and leave rubbish, and this attracts the bears. They have learned to depend on humans for food. Now there are 'problem bears' which walk through campsites, break into parked cars and tents and damage camping equipment. Sometimes they attack people in their search for food. There are park rules to stop people feeding the animals, and to teach them to store food safely and put their rubbish in special containers. But not everyone obeys the rules. 1. Why do tourists come to the Bay of Islands? 2. What effect are they having on the dolphins? 3. What do polar bears normally do in the autumn? 4. What do they do when tourists come close to them? 5. Why could this be a problem for the polar bears in the winter? 6. What human actions have changed the behaviour of brown bears? 7. How have in the bears changed? 8. Why is this a problem? DZIEKI ZA POMOC + DAJE NAJ!
