How would you feel about not being able to see the food on your plate in a restaurant ? Or having to feel in the dark to find your knife and fork and trying not to spill wine from a glass that you can’t see? Well that’s exactly what happens at the “ In the Dark” restaurant in London and I can assure you that it’s a very strange eating experience indeed ! In this unique restaurant there is absolutely no light at all . Customers go from the brightly lit street into a warm blackness , guided to their tables by partially-sighted waiters who know every inch of the place. Once you get used to dark , you can begin to enjoy the experience. I found that not being able to see the food in front of me or the other customers , meant that my other senses got stronger . I could hear every tiny sound in the room, and I used people’s voices to imagine what they looked like. Also , and this is the crucial thing – I focused much more on the subtle flavours of the food. That is – when I could find it !
“in the Dark” in an interesting concept and obviously has a lot of advantages for the owners. They don’t need to have menus printed or have the dining area elegantly decorated! They ensure that customers return by providing high quality food. And believe me, it was excellent.
