In my opinion priest Jerzy Popiełuszko should be addressed as the greatest Pole. Jerzy Popiełuszko was a noted clergyman, known for his kindness as well as openness. When Jerzy Popiełuszko was a child his main virtues were: ambition and self-confidence. In 1965 he joined the seminary and since that time he began to take an interest in political issues, what was criticised by the authorities. Jerzy Popiełuszko was persecuted as he bravely preached his own beliefs. During the period of marital law the priest organized charities to help persecuted and harmed people. The authorities perceived his sermons to be inappropriate as they interwoved spiritual exhortations with political messages. As it was said above, Poiełuszko became the main aim of his persecutors – bombs were thrown to his home as well as he fell victim to precisely planned car accidents. Being interrogated, arrested quite often he was set free after the church interventions. Unfortunately, in 1984 Popiełuszko was kidnapped and brutally beaten and finally killed. Then his body was dumped into the Vistula river. In 2009, Pope Benedict XVI had approved the decree of beatification of Father Popiełuszko.
In my view, blessed Jerzy Popiełuszko should be the role model to many people. Rather than paying attention to his hard lot, Popiełuszko brought help to people in need as well as he tragically died in the name of his homeland.
