W swoje jedenaste urodziny Harry, mieszkający dotychczas u wuja, ciotki i ich syna Dudleya, dowiaduje się, że jest czarodziejem. Chłopak zostaje przyjęty do Szkoły Magii i Czarodziejstwa w Hogwarcie.
