Zad.1

Read the traditional Irish story and complete the sentences. Use your own words.

John and his Comrades.

Many years ago, Jack told his mother he wanted to leave home and find work. His mother gave him her blessing and sent him away. On his journey, kind Jack saved a trapped donkey, a dog from hunters and a rooster from a hungry fox.

Tired after a busy day, Jack and his new friends slept in a forest. During the night, the rooster noticed a light in the distance. He thought it was dawn and crowed loudly. However, it was a candle in a house. Jack and his friends

walked to the light and discovered a thieves' den, filled with a good lord's jewels. Jack asked the animal to make noise, which frightened the thieves and made them run away scared.

The lord arrived the next day. Jack greeted him and told him what happened. Jack was honourable, so he gave the lord his gold and silver back. The lord trused Jack because of his honesty and made him his new helper. Jack brought his mother to live in the lord's castle, and they all lived happily ever after.
