1) accuse, convince, deny, insist
A: Jane has just accused me of trying to steal his idea and present it as my own but I'd honestly thought of it myself.
B: Did you deny stealing it?
A: Of course I did, because he's wrong, but he doesn't believe me.
B: Did you insist that you were telling the truth?
A: I did, but nothing I said could convince him.
2) advise, blame, refuse, threaten
A: My boss just asked me to work overtime at the weekend. I refused.
B: What did he say?
A: He threatened to sack me if I didn't do it but I advised him not to do that as I'd complain to his manager if he tried it.
B: What did he say to that?
A: He blamed me for the poor sales in our department.
3) admit, agree, apologise, remind
A: I finally talked to Alison yesterday after our argument. I reminded her that it's Dad's birthday next week. She agreed to come to his party.
B: Oh, that's good. Did you apologise for what you said?
A: Yeah, I said I was sorry for not trying to understand her side of things. She admitted that she'd been wrong too.
B: B: Sounds like you can be friends again then. Or cousins!
