Nicolaus after his father's death was raised by his uncle Luke Watzenrode, who was the Bishop of Warmia. In the years 1492 - 1495 he studied at the Jagiellonian University in the period of unprecedented prosperity of the university. He did not finish his school diploma. For two consecutive years, he studied at the University of Bologna, where he developed interest in astronomy and wrote the first critical work on the theory of Ptolemy's geocentric. Until 1503 he studied successively at Padua and Rome. He received his doctorate in canon law and the right to practice medicine.
The work of Nicolaus Copernicus was published in Latin in Nuremberg in 1543. It was a break through all scientific works. Copernicus finally showed and proved in detail that the earth revolves around the sun, and not, as it was believed - the sun revolves around the earth. Heliocentric theory replaced the geocentric theory. The discovery of Copernicus is called the Copernican revolution in world science.
