1. Guy Fawkes was an Englishman from York. He was a militant Catholic.

2. He and his friends tried to kill King James I because the king was Protestant. Guy  Fawkes wanted a Catholic king on the English throne.

3. He did not succeed. He and his friends wanted to blow up the palace. Fawkes guarded the gunpowder. But somebody wrote an anonymous letter to the authorities about the plot and Guy Fawkes was discovered.

4. There is fireworks and a bonfire, and an effigy of Guy Fawkes is burned on the bonfire.
