Everyone will agree that education is extremely important nowadays and the vast majority of students leaving high schools are willing to continue it in universities. But the question we need to answer is whether students who want to obtain a degree should pay for it. There are surely both advantages and disadvantages.
Many people believe that introducing tuitions for education at a higher level has a number of benefits. First of all, universities would have more money and therefore would be able to provide a better quality of educational aids and also more professional teaching staff. Secondly, students would do their best not to waste money they invested. As a result, there would be more highly skilled graduates. Moreover, universities would be able to give scholarships and prizes for the best students.
On the other hand, there are also downsides of tuition. For instance, if students have to pay for education, it may become a luxury that many will not be able to afford. Consequently, a lot of talented students who comes from poor families will not get their chance to develop skills. Another problem is that students have to take loans. Because of that plus high living expenses they can run into debts. Furthermore, students are forced into low paying jobs to subsidise their education. It appears that pressure of work and study combined doesn’t help in getting good grades.
All things considered, it seems that paying for own education has as many downsides as positive aspects. Education we pay for gives us many benefits and improve quality of study but in the same time not everyone can afford it. Personally, I believe that education should not be completely free but it cannot be too expensive as well.
