Przetłumacz tekst na język polski: Do you belong to a social networking site? Did your parents have a homepage when they were teenagers? Probably not, because online social networking began less than 20 years ago. Some of the earliest online communities were theGlobe.com , Geocities and Tripod. TheGlobe.com(1994) and Tripod (1995) were both started by students who used chat rooms at university. Chat rooms were places where you could 'talk' online. Personal homepages were also becoming popular, but people had to make their pages themselves. When the concepts of the chat room and the homepage were combined, social networking 'exploded' in popularity. By 2006. 55 per cent of teenagers in the USA had online profiles. MySpace, Bebo and Facebook are now the biggest global networks, although they are not open to children under 13. A typical social networking site lets you uploadphotos, videos and music as well as chatting. There are many other networks in different countries and different languages, including sites which are for special interests. Flick, for example, is a photography site and Gen.com is for people who are researching their family trees.
