The story started with Gary Barlow. Gary formed his first band when he was thirteen. He was a singer in a nightclub when he was fourteen and he wrote his first song when he was fifteen. When he was seventeen, he met Mark Owen. Mark worked in a bank at the time. Gary and Mark liked music, but they didn't know any other musicians. Then Gary met a manager, Nigel Martin Smith, and they decided to form a band.

Howard Donald and Jason Orange met in a disco - they were fantastic dancers. Jason was a decorator and Howard worked in a garage. They wanted to dance, but they didn't have a band. Then they met Nigel. Take That! was nearly ready - but where was Number 5?

The band advertised in a newspaper and Robbie Williams arrived. He was a student. He didn't sing professionally and he didn't dance very well, but he learned very guickly. Soon a fantastic new band was born !
