I think that the main reason for that is the story. It has to be interesting and different. Mostly, people want to fly away to another world. I've just finished reading Harry Potter written by J. K. Rowling and it was amazing. Every evening, while I was reading it, I lived in that dangerous magical story. I was crying when someone good died and I was frightened when the Second Wizarding War was taking place. I never felt anything like that before. Maybe Rowling isn't the best writer but her imagination makes Harry Potter the most widely read books.
