Flamenco dance has its roots in oriental, ancient religious dances. In the present form, you can observe the many elements of Indian dance, such as movements of the arms, hands and fingers, as well as, the use the legs as a percussion instrument. Perhaps the dance is derived directly from the Hindu dance called katakana.
It tells the story by the dance itself and gestures are not assigned to any specific meaning. In flamenco, movements and gestures express a certain emotional states, they also stress the importance of the dancer or the nature of words and melody that accompanies them. It is a dance often performed solo, duet, or group consists of the following "solos", performed byindividual dancers.
Costumes of dancers are mostly black, navy or dark brown. They are: tight pants, white shirt, tight vest, a small scarf at the neck, boots inspired by riding boots with high heels and distinctive flat-bottomed hat. Vest and hat are sometimes used as part of the choreography.
Dresses of dancers are mainly broad, colorful skirts or dresses (used in the dance),bodice and colorful scarf, sometimes it is complemented with a fan, a comb or a flower.
The music is performed mainly by the guitar (although there are cases of the use of flute,violin and cello). Rhythm stands as both dancing and singers by strike hands (clapping),snapping their fingers, striking the palms on the boxes, on which the singers sit (called the cajón)with their castanets.
