Ponieważ pola figur podobnych są proporcjonalne do kwadratów długości określających je odcinków, więc twierdzenie Pitagorasa ma związane z tym interpretacje, wyrażane sformułowaniami typu: Pole kwadratu (koła, półkola itp.), którego bokiem (średnicą) jest przeciwprostokątna trójkąta prostokątnego, jest sumą pól kwadratów (kół, półkoli itp.), których bokami (średnicami) są przyprostokątne tego trójkąta.
