They also diagnosing illness, preventing the disease, prescribing the appropriate treatment and perform surgery. Vets are expected to ensuring appropriate hygiene and welfare conditions. Another responsibility is being able to perform surgical operations, for example routine operations (like animal castrations), but also procedures to “put down” very ill or badly injured animals. Vets are working with veterinary nurses, so they supervise and carry out a variety of test and scans. These could be x-rays, biopsies or ultrasounds.

Qualifications – in order to practice in Poland, veterinary surgeons need to graduate medical university with a degree. To entry the requirements of the degree courses you need to pass the biology, chemistry and physics exams. Veterinary surgeons with degree need a practice and also they need to be registered.
This job need skills, such as: empathy, flexibility, communication, dealing with uncooperative animals, working in hard conditions. It is required to work in weekends and holidays, sometimes for 24 hours. The majority of vets within Poland work in a private practices. Many of them have their own practices and they need additional skills, such as management skills.
