I survived an earthquake in California in 1989.

It was 5 o'clock in the afternoon. I was sleeping in my bedroom after a tiring day at school. I was awakened by the sound of the window breaking and books fallig off the shelves. Then I heard my broher call. 'Monica, it's an earthquake! Get up, quickly!' The room was such a mess that almost couldn't get to the door. Finally I managed to get to my brother. We were both tembling. We stood in the doorway until the shaking stopped, then ran outside. We saw lots of people, some of them were injured. When I calmed down my brother checked if we had any injuries. Fortunately, we were not hurt.
