Once upon a time in West Java, a beautiful woman named Dayang Sumbi lived with her beloved Sangkuriang and their dog.
The dog always accompanied Sangkuriang where he went but did not help Sangkuriang in hunting. This of course made Sangkuriang not like his dog.
One day Sangkuriang's anger could not be contained and made him have the heart to kill his dog. Then when he got home, Sangkuriang gave his dog's heart to his mother.
Dayang Sumbi who did not know it then cooked it and ate it. When Dayang Sumbi asked where the dog was, Sangkuriang spoke that his dog had been killed and his heart was given to Dayang Sumbi.
Hearing this Dayang Sumbi got angry and hit Sangkuriang's head until it bled. Sangkuriang then left the house. The thing that made Dayang Sumbi angry was that the dog was the incarnation of Sangkuriang's father.
The dog's heart that Dayang Sumbi ate made her look younger and more beautiful. So that a few years later Sangkuriang came home and did not recognize his mother.
Sangkuriang fell in love with Dayang Sumbi and intended to marry her. At first Dayang Sumbi did not refuse but one day while fixing Sangkuriang's headband Dayang Sumbi saw a wound on the head.
Which reminded him of the incident when Dayang Sumbi injured her son by hitting him on the head.
This made Dayang Sumbi realize that the one who would marry her was her own son. So Dayang Sumbi refused the marriage, but Sangkuriang seemed unwilling to accept the fact and still wanted to marry his own mother.
Finally Dayang Sumbi gave the condition that Sangkuriang had to be able to dam the Citarum river and make a big canoe. It all had to be done in one night.
It turned out that Sangkuriang asked the genie for help so that Dayang Sumbi's request was easily resolved. Finally before dawn the work was almost done.
With the help of the people of Dayang Sumbi, Sangkuriang was able to stop Sangkuriang from completing his conditions, namely that silk cloth was stretched east of the city so that it was like dawn. Feeling a failure, Sangkuriang finally destroyed the job.
