On the 5th January 2005, millions of people in cities all over Europe held a three-minutes silence to remember victims of Asian tsunami. At twelve o’clock, people stopped whatever they were doing and stood in silence. This happened in homes, in offices, even in shop and supermarkets. On the streets, cars, buses and taxis stopped as divers switched off the engines. In train stations, people stopped rushing to catch their trains. They didn’t need to rush, because the rain weren’t moving either. Nothing and nobody moved for those three minutes. Even the busiest airports, everything was still and quiet. There were no announcements. Planes that were on the ground remained stationary. The silence gave everyone a short opportunity to think about and grieve for all the victims of the tragedy.
