Big Ben is a symbol of London and probably is one of the first things you will see during your visit in this city. The strike of the famous clock is broadcast all over the world by the BBC. It was erected, after the fire of the House of Parliament in 1834. Big Ben was named after Sir Benjamin Hall who was its constructor during the building of the new House of Parliament. Big Ben is an extremely huge clock. What is more, it is very precise. Twice a day the clock is checked by some officials from the Greenwich Observatory if it is right.
Square and Piccadilly Circus intersection of main streets in the heart of the theater and entertainment district in London West End, close to Soho. It was established in 1819 at a street intersection with Regent Street. Previous name was in honor of Portugal Street Braganzy Princess Catherine of Portugal, espoused by King Charles II. Place recognizable around the world primarily through advertising light of such companies as Sanyo, McDonald and Coca-Cola, placed at one corner of the square. In the central place is a fountain with a statue of Anteros. This is a meeting place for Londoners and tourist attraction in London. Immediately below the square in the basement of the underground station is Piccadilly Circus.
