Article Fri "Environmental problems and socio-economic components of energy use" is an extended form of a teaching unit of the item "Use of electricity" carried out in high school profiled electrical profile. It covers topics discussed in this subject as an initial message, whose purpose is to highlight major issues related to energy and the appropriate focus students on key issues related to the use of energy. Presented content may also be used for other subjects, such as, technology, environmental protection.
Education of the young generation in this area should help to lay the foundations for sustainable economic development without causing over-exploitation of natural resources and ensure proper standards of environmental cleanliness. It is important to entering adulthood generation had sufficient knowledge to understand the existing relationship between economic activity, energy use and the consequences of these actions for the environment. According to one definition of physical energy is a scalar physical quantity used to quantify the different processes and interactions, expressed in Joules [J]. It is also the amount subject to the laws of behavior and can not be used or produced. It can occur in many forms with different utility to man. Every human activity is linked to the change forms of energy. Unfortunately, never input energy is not converted in its entirety in the form of another. Most of this lost energy is dissipated unwanted or becomes waste production. Relation between the useful energy is lost efficiency and effectiveness of its use meaning.
Energy Resources
Continuous flow of energy is the foundation and development of all forms of life. In view of the Earth as a system of physical acting upon it are the primary forms of energy: - Thermal energy accumulated in its interior - The energy of its rotation around its axis - Energy cosmic rays - Solar radiation.
Given the above it could be postulated that the development of civilization threatens to lack of energy. In practice, however, uses the best available energy ie solar energy accumulated over millions of years in the surface layers of earth in the form of fossil fuels (it is known that the Sun was and is the basis for living organisms, which are dying as a result of the different processes they create.) Exploitation of this energy occurs at a certain stage of development of human civilization, when to cover the growing needs of business, he began to go to easily accessible stocks accumulated by nature in the entire previous period. At that time, has been disturbed the natural process of removal of carbon into the atmosphere. As a result of burning fossil fuels, man began to emit the element in large quantities to the atmosphere as carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide. Emissions beginning was small, but with population growth and intensive industrialization has steadily increased. At the same time decreasing forest areas and the increasing pollution of the oceans cause coral slowdowns in the removal of excess carbon from the atmosphere. Apart from increasing concentrations of carbon followed by the accompanying pollutant emissions, such as ash, dust, nitrogen oxides and sulfur. To the beginning of the twentieth century, widely recognized as an inexhaustible fossil fuels. However, the technical revolution in the last two centuries at an ever growing population of the world population massively undermine this view.
The public interest and the energy
The development of economy and society can work in different ways. Its final shape choices affect both individuals and entire social groups. Most people care about their immediate environment, because it most affects their quality of life. World problems is important to us, if we see they have a direct impact on our immediate environment. In addition, the time factor also plays a significant role. This is what we expect tomorrow, is more important than what is expected for several years. Poor population is more interested in satisfying the basic needs of life than the energy matters. Individually, each man consumes enough energy to see a direct effect of consumption on the environment. Only a disastrous impact on society as a whole, leads to radical remedies. An example of this can be in London in the 50s of last century, where the long-term persistence of smog formed from a mixture of chimney smoke, car exhaust and water vapor caused breathing difficulties and even death of many people. On the "lucky" smog was visible, and were forced to act. Unfortunately, out of the progressive concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is not visible, and cumulating produced globally for many years. Its effects could occur at any time and hardly predictable in the world. The only reasonable solution is a quick introduction to the use of renewable energy sources (solar, hydro, wind, geothermal, etc.). This is primarily a task for the elite opinion-makers, intellectual, politicians and governments.
Social Issues - Energy
Energy use is the implementation of specific services to their customers. Depending on the type of services must be provided "as is. To obtain this form are processed primary energy derived from natural sources, both renewable and non renewable generating at the various losses. For example, in Poland, 1 kWh of electricity saved will save 5 kWh of energy contained in coal deposits. A loss of energy inputs consist of coal mining, transport to power, the losses in the processing, transmission, needs its own power, distribution, etc. Reducing the risks for the environment is in the final consumption. Unfortunately the growth of civilization has not yet led to substantial materiałochłonnej structure of consumption. This resulted from the desire to have an advantage over the values of public wealth to such an extent that it was difficult to restore the balance due to the unfavorable distribution of interests between the world regions, social groups and individual people. There is already produced unfavorable structure of assets and bad work habits of people. There is also a huge resistance from the companies that did not want to give up the achieved economic and financial position. Internal situation in many countries is also complicated example in Poland developed extensively in heavy industry (coal, chemical, steel, energy) and therefore have developed certain social groups lobbying for these industries. Structural changes in employment is a difficult process because they require retraining, employment and even place of residence. The issue of energy is so important that it should be to popularize not only at every level of education but also in the consciousness of broad layers of society. The man at the end of the twentieth century and now increasingly trying to organize its relations with the natural world, because he realized that environmental problems can not be resolved alongside the social and economic issues, because it is a part. This equal treatment because of economic, social and environmental gave rise a new approach to nature, which is called sustainable development or sustainable development. The beginning of this process should be a conference in Rio de Janeiro in June 1992 called "Earth Summit". The main document adopted and at this conference was Agenda 21 is an action program for sustainable development of the world in this century.
