Mowa zależna polega na tym, że cofasz się o jeden czas od zdania wyjściowego, np. jeśli w zdaniu masz czas present simple to zamieniając to zdanie na mowę zależną zamieniasz ten czas na czas past simple. Jeśli masz czas past simple to zamieniasz go czas zaprzeszły czyli past perfect. Określenia czasowe, takie jak next week, tomorrow, czy yestarday zamieniasz kolejno na: the following week, the next day, the previous day.
