- używamy go w formie „gdybania”, chcemy wyrazić teraźniejszość, która jest mało prawdopodobna, że się zdarzy

- rada: If I were* you, I would smoke less (Gdybym był Tobą, mniej bym palił)

* wyjątkowo możemy przy osobach I, she, he, it stosować formę WERE.
