Najprościej rzecz ujmując czas simple past to czas dokonany – tzn. że mówi o czynności która się odbyła i skończyła, np.
I brushed my teeth at seven in the morning.
Umyłem zęby o siódmej rano.
Z kolei czas past continuous to czas niedokonany, tzn. mówi o czynności która trwała w przeszłości, np.:
I was brushing my teeth AT seven in the morning.
O siódmej rano myłem zęby.
