famouscrimesinBritishhistory.Ittookplace
onthe8thAugust1963,when15armedrobbers
stole£2.6millioninbanknotesfromatrainthat
wastravellingfromGlasgowtoLondon.
The robbers stopped the train and told the
drivertotakeittothenextbridge.Theydidn’t
useanyguns,buttheyhitthetraindriverover
theheadwithanironbar.Hedidn’tdie,buthe
wasbadlyinjured.Therobbersputthemoney
intosomebagsand,then,atthebridge,they
tookthebagsoffthetrainandputtheminto
somecarsthatwerewaitingforthem.Itwas
verywellorganised,andalltherobbersescaped.
Therobbersthenwenttoafarmhouseinthe
Englishcountryside,andwaitedtherefortwo
days. They played a game called Monopoly,
becausetheywerebored.Theproblemwasthat
theydidn’tweargloveswhiletheywereplaying
the game. When the police arrived at the
farmhousefivedayslater,therobbersweren’t
there,butthepolicefoundtheirfingerprints
on the Monopoly board. The police soon
arrestedmostoftherobbersinLondonand
they went to prison.
