Thousands of Tube passengers were trapped underground
for two hours as the power supply stopped and London
trains stopped moving. Around 2,400 passengers were
forced to walk for 20 minutes along the track of the

Five Tube trains were caught in the chaos – three
between Baker Street and St John’s Wood, the fourth at
Swiss Cottage, and the fifth at Westminster. (1) .
They described the conditions inside the carriages as
‘horrendous’.

and more distressed as the time went on. ‘There was a
pregnant lady who was very upset, and another man
who was carried to the front of the train where there was
a doctor who helped,’ she told the Evening Standard
newspaper. ‘After two hours they said we would have
to get off and walk back to St John’s Wood. (3)
I haven’t been able to go to work because I was so
traumatised. I understand it broke down, but why did
it have to take so long?’
Another passenger said: ‘We were left for so long,
and we couldn’t get out. Finally when the staff came we
could get out and breathe some air. It was very scary as
we were walking right next to the rails.’
A Transport for London spokeswoman explained that
there had been power supply problems in the Baker
Street area so the Jubilee line was suspended between
Finchley Road and London Bridge. (4) Passengers
were taken off all five trains, with the last returned to
stations at around 11:30.
She added: ‘London Underground would like to
apologise to customers whose journeys were disrupted
this morning particularly those who were on the stalled
trains. (5)
