Dlatego że uwalniane są do cytoplazmy enzymy z klasy hydrolaz – takie jak kaspazy – rozkładające organelle komórkowe. Z tego względu zatrzymanie zainicjowanego procesu apoptozy lub nekrozy jest niemożliwe.

Ponieważ liście pobierają dużo z drzewa wody i soli mineralnych, potrzebnych im do procesu fotosyntezy. Dlatego gdy w drzewa nie mją wody muszą poprostu pozbywać się liści.
