Yesterday, our school had a flag ceremony to celebrate the youth pledge. My friends and I had to wear white uniform and black shoes. There were some events to celebrate it. One of them was clean class competition. My classmates and I had to prepare our classroom a day before. We cleaned and arranged our class together. The windows were cleaned by me. Some friends brought beautiful plants to decorate our classroom. And on the flag ceremony, the headmaster announced who was the winner of the competition. He announced that our classroom was the best clean class. We were very glad.

The youth and the history of our nation seems to collide very often. They do not take part of it but play an important role as well. The event in October 1928 was one of the example. It has been known as the Youth Pledge. It all started in 1926 when several group of nationalist youth held the 1st national youth congress in Batavia. It did not produce anything peculiar except the idea of uniting the whole region as one nation, Indonesia. The second congress in October 1928 was the one to remember. It was held in three different session with distinguished issues in each. The first one was the expectation of the young nationalist to inspire the spirit of unity to the whole nation. The second one focused on educational issues while the third one was the moment when the future national anthem of Indonesia, Indonesia Raya was played for the first time by Wage Rudolf Supratman in Jalan Kramat Raya No.106 on the 28th October. There were several young nationalists, who would be the future national figures in Indonesian history, taking part of these congresses such as Amir Syarifuddin, J Leimena and Muhammad Yamin, beside the one mentioned earlier, WR Supratman. Finally, they read the national youth pledge proclaiming three ideals, one motherland, one nation and one language. The pledge would be as follows: - We the sons and daughters of Indonesia, acknowledge one motherland, Indonesia. - We the sons and daughter of Indonesia, acknowledge one nation, Indonesia. - We the sons and daughters of Indonesia, respect one language of unity, Indonesian.
