1.The most famous of the Scottish Highland Games, this is the greatest throwing competition. The caber is a thin tree, usually 5-6 metres long and weighing 35-60 kilos. The aim isn't to throw the futhest. The tree should fall so that the top ends up facing the thrower. The winner is the thrower whose tree falls the straightest (and the correct way round)

2. The small Outback town of Hay, 600 km west of Sydney, Australia, is home to a new competition. We usually count sheep to make us fall asleep but his is a surprisingly exciting competition. Ten people watch as hundreds of sheep race past them and the winner is the one who guesses closest to the real number.

3.Every summer since 1971, thousands of people have come to BOgnor Regis in West Sussex on the south coast of England to see if anyone can fly over 100 metres without power. Some take it seriously, others just dress up in fancy dress and jump into the sea. The record so far is 89,2 metres so the 25,000 prize is still waiting.

4. A famous rowing competition in England has been copied by he Australians and is held on he Todd River near Alice Springs. However, there is one small problem. Central Australia is a desert and the Todd River is dry. So, the boats have no bottoms and the crews run alng the river bed.
