Christopher Columbus (31 October 1451 – 20 May 1506) was an Italian explorer ,navigator colonizer. Born in northwestern part of Italy .He led four voyages across the Atlantic Ocean that led to general European awareness of the American continents. He was trying to find a shorter or less dengerous way to India. With the fall of Constantinople to the Ottoman Turks in 1453, the land route to Asia became much more difficult and dangerous.  Never admitting that he had reached a continent previously unknown to Europeans, rather than the East Indies he had set out for, Columbus called the inhabitants of the lands he visited indios.
