Dolphins and whales have voices, but they are different from most other mammals. They do not make sounds with their mouths, like human beings, but from nasal "airsacs", which are just below their blowhole. Because it is difficult to see under water, sound and hearing are very important for them. In fact, whales use sound to communicate with each over very long distances (sometimes hundreds of kilometers) by using very low frequency sounds. However, dolphins usulally use higher frequencies, wich means they can't be heart over such great distances.
People believe that dolphins are one of the most intelligent animals species on the planet and this is because they have a complicated system of communication. They use lost of different sounds, inclauding whistles and clicks, as well as body language, to communicate with each other and even with humans. Sound travels for to five times faster in the water, so it makes it one of the most important parts of communication for sea animals.
It seems that the whistles they use are unique for each dolphin, so that they can identify each other. Young dolphins are trained to recognise their mother's whistle as soon as they are born. Both whales and dolphins use clicks to help them locate objects under the weater and this is called "echolocation". For example, when they are looking for food, the clicks get faster the nearer they get to the object.
Dolphins often communcate with humans by using their bodies. They can jump out of the water and then fall back into it with a splash or they can splash the water with their tails. However, they also use these methods to communicate with each other. It has also been discovered that dolphins can understand the language patterns that humans use in the same way animals like parrots do. Sometimes dolphins can copy the different human sounds they hear, such as boat engines or laughter. Do każdego zdania są te same odpowiedzi: A.Right B.Wrong C. Doesn't say
