To zadanie jest na czas Past Continuous – przeszły ciągły i Past Simple – przeszły prosty.

Używamy tych czasów gdy czynność odbywała się przez pewien czas w przeszłości (Past Continuous) i została przerwana przez krótszą czynność (Past Simple)

She was taking a bath when the telephone rang. (Branie kąpieli zostaje przerwane przez telefon).

Konstrukcja zdania Past Continuous:

Osoba+WAS/WERE+czasownik –ing+ reszta zdania

WAS – osoby I, he, she, it

WERE – osoby we, you, they

W Past Continuous stosujemy określenia WHEN/AS/WHILE (kiedy, jak, podczas gdy), aby podkreślić, że czynność zajmowała dłuższy czas.

W Past Simple stosujemy tylko WHEN.
