Tissues: two large groups There are four types of fundamental tissues: Muscle Tissue: Composes almost half of the mass of the animals (more than 40%). Composed of myocytes, muscle fibers, and allows movement and contraction of the body. They are called muscle fibers since their shape is longer than wide. It consists of three elements: muscle fibers, capillary network and fibrous connective tissue, which help to keep everything together and serves to transport blood vessels. They are classified according to their function (if under control of the mind), voluntary muscle, or not (involuntary muscle) and according to their structure (regular transverse bands, striated muscle, without transverse bands, smooth muscle).
