When I was growing up there always seemed to be music in the air.It came in from the street from car radios,from restaurants and from the windows of apartaments. At home my mother aften sang-I have vivid memories of her sindind while she was doing the dishes.My father played the mandolin and my brother Frank played the guitar .And at that time there was an incredible.range of music on the radio everything from Italian folk songs to country and western.

One day when I was 16 I heard something complementy new.I'll never forget the first time I heard the sound of the guitar.The music was saying "Listen to me!" I ran to get a pencil and paper and wrote down the name .The song was see see rider and the name of the singer was Leadbelly.I ran up to the record store on Forty-ninth Street as fast as I could and found an old Leadbelly record.I listened to it agin an agin .When you listen to Leadbelly"s music you feel inspired by its energy and truth you really understand what it means to be human.That's the blues.

Kiedy dorastałem wydawało mi się, że muzyka zawsze jest w powietrzy. Pochodziła z ulicy, z radii samochodowych, z restauracji i okien mieszkań. W domu moja mama śpiewała - mam żywe wspomnienia jej śpiewu, kiedy zmywała naczynia. Mój ojciec grał na mandolinie, a mój brat Frank na gitarze. Różnorodnść muzyki w radiu była wtedy niesamowita. Od włoskich piosenek ludowych po country i westerny. 

 

Pewnego dnia, kiedy miałem 16 lat usłyszałam coś kompletnie nowego. Nigdy nie zapomnę, kiedy pierwszy raz usłyszałem dźwięk gitary. Ta muzyka mówiła do mnie "posłuchaj mnie!". Pobiegłem po ołówek i papier i zapisałem nazwę. Piosenka nazywała się (tutaj chyba coś źle napisałeś/aś, poprawiłem) "See sea rider", wykonawcy Leadbelly. Pobiegłem do sklepu muzycznego na ulicy 49 tak szybko, jak tylko mogłem i znalazłem stare nagranie Leadbelly. Słuchałem go ciągle bez przerwy. Kiedy słuchasz Leadbelly czujesz się inspirowany energią i prawdą, na prawdę rozumiesz co znaczy być człowiekiem. To jest blues. 

 

Końcówka jakaś dziwna się wydaje, ale to nie ja pisałem...
