Hope digunakan saat kita membicarakan tentang suatu hal yang kita inginkan dan mungkin dapat terjadi. Dalam konteks dialog ini kita menggunakan hope.

Contoh:

I hope it stops raining soon. (I think it’s possible that the rain will stop)
I hope you will get the job. (I think it’s possible that she/he will get the job)

Wish digunakan saat kita mengharapkan adanya perubahan. Ketika kita menginginkan suatu hal yang berbeda terjadi di masa depan, namun sedikit mustahil untuk terjadi.

Contoh:

I wish there were more hours in the day. (It’s not possible to have more than 24h per day)
I wish I’d studied something a little more practical. (In fact you studied something else already)
