General Information:
From 1.01.1999r. Elblag is a city that belongs to the Warmia-Mazury. In the years 1975 to 1998 was the capital of Elblag Elblag province. Elblag currently has about 130 000 inhabitants. This number is constantly changing

Elblag was founded by the Teutonic Knights in 1237r. near the site where the ninth century there was a Prussian trade settlement Truso. In 1246r. granted town privileges.
name of the town derives from the river Ilfing. Elblag was built from scratch, so you absolutely can not be combined with the legendary Truso (settlement on the lake. Druzno).
Elblag was one of the first cities established by the Teutonic Knights and is the oldest city in the Warmia-Mazury.
For the first 70 years Elblag was the most important center of urban life, the only sea port and military base core organizing the Teutonic state.
Elblag long time belonged to East Prussia.
After World War II Elblag again became part of the Polish state.
