My name is Gabriela. I live in a small village on the island Marettimo near Sicily. I live in a house
close to the sea. Marettimo is a beautiful island with a large mountain, lots of birds and flowers.
There aren't any cars or trains. People ride bikes or walk to get to their friends or shops. On
Marettimo our language is Sicilian but people also speak Italian. Some people can speak English
The men on my island are fishermen. Today the boats have brought 300 fish to the island. Fish is
our main food on Marettimo but we also eat fruit and vegetables. Today, there are only 800 people
on the island. About 100 young people have left our island to look for work in Italy. Next year, I am
going to university in Sicily but I want to live on the island when I finish university. I love living on
Marettimo.
