My name is John Smith. I write to address some controversies in article “Downfall of public education” you have published in March edition of your journal.
I'm against paid for public education.
Primary and secondary education is compulsory for all minors. There are thousands of families living below poverty line. They have no discretionary income, and barely enough money to feed themselves fed and their clothes in good repair. They don't have enough money to pay for education of their children, and taxes benefits you propose want cover their children schooling.
Do you propose making education non-compulsory, and forgoing potential in those children, or keeping education compulsory and taking those children away from their parents?
Redistribution of goods is a way to keep dissatisfied people from starting (bloody) revolution. Overworked, underpaid workers won't raise to build guillotines if they hope their children lives will be better. Free public education is cornerstone of this hope, remove it on your own peril.
Today government says that I do not pay for education. This is shameless lie. My parents paid year after year through their noses for new textbooks. Textbooks that differed just enough from previous years that buying them used was not an option, and different form next years books so selling them and recuperating investment would be impossible.
I know I'll be paying for undergraduate studies. Nowadays companies require a lot of experience. I'll find myself a job to amass this experience and pay for extramural studies.
For nest issue I propose two more controversial topics: “Do we need tax funded religious indoctrination in public schools?” and “Is lack of modern sexual education a factor in explosion of teen pregnancies in (junior) high schools?”.
Thank you for giving me opportunity to take part in this discussion.
