y = 8 - 2x

3y - 5x = -9
3 ( 8 - 2x ) - 5x = -9
24 - 6x - 5x = -9
24 -11x = -9
-11x = -33
x = 3

y = 8-2x
   = 8 - 2(3)
   = 8-6
   = 2
