The Latin America Studies (L.A.S.) series aim at disseminating research results by the Area Studies Department II of the Institute of Developing Economies, Japan External Trade Organization (IDE-JETRO). This report is an outcome of a joint research “Integration of rural economy into market through the forced migration: Case studies in Ayacucho, Peru” that was carried out in Lima, Peru, during the fiscal year 2002. The research group consists of three researchers: Tatsuya Shimizu of IDE-JETRO and visiting researcher at Research Center in the Pacific University (Centro de Investigación, Universidad del Pacífico: CIUP); Alfredo Valencia, researcher at the Center of Population Promotion and Development (Centro de Promoción y Desarrollo Poblacional: CEPRODEP); and Jefrey Gamarra, Director of the Institute of Research and Promotion for Development and Peace (Instituto de Investigación y Promoción para el Desarrollo y Paz: IPAZ) and Professor of the University of San Cristóbal de Huamanga (UNSCH) in Ayacucho.
