Se utiliza para decir que algo existe o está ocurriendo:
There’s a bus at quarter to ten. // There are two cars parked outside the building.
There will be a meeting next Friday.
Fijaros que el sujeto “de facto” de la frase aparece más adelante y la forma del verbo to be está en acuerdo con éste sujeto.
There se utiliza también en frases que contienen expresiones como a lot of, many, much, several, more, enough o numerales:
There’s too much noise in the room.
There were several to discuss at the meeting.
There have been ten crashes on this motorway since I moved here.
