W Starożytnej Grecji było dużo świątyń, dla wszystkich bóstw, jak Zeus, Afrodyta, czy Apollo. Partenon w Atenach był świątynią dla Ateny. Była ona boginią wojny i patronką Aten. Dziś, Partenon jest w ruinie, ponieważ ogromna eksplozja zniszczyła oryginalną świątynię w 1687 roku. Wciąż jest ona w niebezpieczeństwie, z powodu efektów zanieczyszczeń z ruchu drogowego.
