WISHES & REGRETS - unreal past:
- I wish = If only, z tym, że w 'If only' występuje tylko 'past simple' i 'past perfect', nie ma 'would'.
①
WISH + PAST SIMLE - we use it to about the present and the future
Budowa:
I wish + person + PAST SIMPLE
e.g.
- I wish I was/were slimmer.
- I wish I had longer hair.
- I wish I didn’t live in Lubin.
②
WISH + PAST PERFECT - we use it to talk about the past
Budowa:
I wish + person + PAST PERFECT
Przykłdowe parafrazy:
- I broke my arm. - I wish I hadn’t broken my arm.
- I didn’t learn phrasals. - I wish I had learnt them.
③
WISH + WOULD - we use it to talk about the present and the future if there is a strong desire, wish. We use it to talk only about other people (there might be hidden 'I' in the word 'WE' - be careful!) Lastly, it has to be an activity, not a state!
Jeżeli będzie takie zdanie, w którym pasuje WISH + PAST SIMPLE i WISH + WOULD, zawsze WISH + WOULD 'wygrywa', ale tylko, jeśli są spełnione powyższe warunki.
e.g.
- I wish she would dance better. - POPRAWNIE
- I wish she danced better. - NIEPOPRAWNIE
Pozdrawiam,
Marcin
