1. There are many organisations that specialise in animal protection. People can either join one or focus on spreading awareness among local people. Inform about the quanities of animals killed for various reasons. Numbers are really meaningful for us.

2. It's hard for us to judge. They have emotions, but we tend to classify a human by his self-consciousness that wasn't recognized among animals I believe. So theoretically I disagree.

3. The most common ones, I believe, are dogs, cats, maybe rabbits and parrots. That's because they are pretty easy to tame and less dangerous than any bigger animals.

4. I would call it some kind of fashion. They are thinking about fame more than about their safety. I wouldn't really mind them. Natural selection will just do its job.
