Lord of the Rings (original title: The Lord of the Rings) is a fantasy novel by JRR Tolkien's happening in the fictional world called Middle-earth.
It is a continuation of another story by this author titled The Hobbit, or There and back again.
Lord of the Rings trilogy is often called, though really it is a novelistic whole, divided into six books. Due to its large volume was published in three volumes because of pressure from publishers, but this was not the original intention of Tolkien. The novel consists of six parts:
Volume I - The Fellowship of the Ring (The Fellowship of the Ring)
1. Back to Shadow (The Return of the Shadow)
2. Fellowship of the Ring (The Fellowship of the Ring).
Volume II - The Two Towers (The Two Towers)
3. Treason of Isengard (The Treason of Isengard)
4. Journey to Mordor (The Journey to Mordor)
Volume III - Return of the King (The Return of the King)
5. War of the Ring (The War of the Ring)
6. Return of the King (The Return of the King).
Written by about 17 years (including during the Second World War) book was published in Britain in 1954-55. In the mid-60s Lord of the Rings became a publishing phenomenon in the Anglo-Saxon countries, and around the world (in Poland appeared in 1961-1963). The book has been translated into dozens of languages. The success of the book led to the development of a giant fantasy genre, but despite thousands of books Lord of the Rings remains the most coveted item of the genre.
Contents of the book is an attempt to destroy the One Ring (forged by the Dark Lord of the Orodruinie), which allows you to manage other forged rings for the other races of creatures, which in effect gives dominion over Middle-earth. This act must take Frodo, hobbit of the Shire to allow the defeat of Sauron, which is the title Lord of the Rings. Accompanied by a faithful friend - Sam.
Lord of the Rings was filmed twice. In the years 1977-1979 the company Warner Brothers has tried to film the book in the form of animated film. Transfer of the novel to the screen has become well-known film animator Ralph Bakshi, who shot the first part of the movie Lord of the Rings, covering about half the volume of the novel, but due to the mediocre success of the film screening was completed.
The biggest problem with the screen adaptation of the movie was a good representation of the world described by Tolkien. It was not until the emergence of advanced computer graphics allowed for making a film with a real event. Another part of this three-volume epic appeared in cinemas, at about yearly intervals, in 2001, 2002 and 2003, in the form of Lord of the Rings trilogy, Peter Jackson, breaking audience records. In 2001 (in Poland in February 2002) on the screens came Lord of the Rings movie. The Fellowship of the Ring. Another part - Lord of the Rings. The Two Towers, was released in 2002 (in Poland in January 2003). Last - The Lord of the Rings. Return of the King, came to the screens on Dec. 16, 2003 (in Poland on Jan. 1, 2004) and won 11 Oscars Academy Awards, including Best Picture in 2003.
BBC Radio produced based on the Lord of the Rings several radio plays.
