I am writing in connection with your article "Teenage victims of crime" which appeared in the last issue of the Newspaper. I generally consider this article to be a very decent piece of journalism and one that puts things into a good perspective.
I agree that nowadays teenagers wear on them things that are much more valuable than ever before. All this electronic equipment and designer clothes make them perfect target for street thugs and pickpockets. And I agree that the crime rate against teenagers has risen sharply recently. I have noticed it myself.
However, what I do not agree with is your "wise advice" for teenagers on how to prevent those crimes. In my opinion, leaving valuable things, like MP3 players or tablets, at home is not a right way to go.
The solution I would like to have implemented is to increase the number of police patrols in areas where teenagers usually go, to install new cameras as part of the city monitoring system and to make the penalties for theft and robbery more severe. I am sure that these steps will reduce the number of crimes against teenagers quite soon.
