William Shakespeare, who is also called 'The Bard of Avon' and 'The Swan of Avon', was born in the town of Stratford-upon Avon in Warwickshire. Although his real day of birth remains unknown, we know that he was baptised on April 26, 1564. He died on April 23, 1616, at the age of 52 and is buried on Stratford-on-Avon.

He was one of the most successful writers in the history. He was a famous English poet, playwright and actor. His remaining works include 37 plays, 154 sonnets, poems. He is believed to have attended King Edward VI Grammar School in Stratford. In all probability he didn't go to university. It is also possible that Shakespeare also worked as a school teacher as there are some 'lost' years after the twins (Hamnet and Judith) were born and the history records don't have much data about that period of time.

Shakespeare had 7 siblings. His father John was a glover and alderman. His mother, Mary Arden, came from a gentry family. William's career started when he moved to London around 1592. We know a lot about Shakespeare but his private life is shrouded in mystery.

His famous works include 'Hamlet' (around 1600s), 'Macbeth' (1603-1606), 'Romeo and Juliet (1595-1596), 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' and many others. Not only did he influence the English language, but also many writers. Thomas S. Eliot often emphasised that Shakespeare's works cannot go unnoticed. It is worth mentioning that he is the most quoted writer in the history of literature. We can be sure that he won't be easily forgotten as many modern writers look up to him and his influence will remain strong.
